Once considered a neighborhood of Balwyn, Deepdene gained its individual identity in April 2010, when it was officially recognized as a distinct locality. Although there were proposals to expand its boundaries, the Boroondara Council decided to retain its current size in 2014.
History shines brightly in Deepdene. The Post Office on Whitehorse Road opened its doors back in 1913. And for those with a love for vintage railways, the suburb once boasted the Deepdene railway station. Part of the Outer Circle railway line, the station witnessed the "Deepdene Dasher" train charm its residents, although it ceased operations in 1927 due to low ridership. The closure of the restaurant in Box Hill amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point for Tony. In Easter 2021, with resilience and a vision to share his culinary heritage, Anh Anh Vietnamese Restaurant was born, bringing a slice of Vietnam to Kew.
